Doctors have long disagreed about how much alcohol a pregnant woman can safely consume. Even today, there are many countries where the official medical advice is that some alcohol is fine during pregnancy. In France, England, and Ireland it is considered fine to have an occasional drink, and these nations are hardly suffering from a flood of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
