The biggest national health promotion day for women in the country, National Women’s Health and Fitness Day takes place tomorrow. The goal is to promote health awareness and physical activity for all women—not just for one day, but for every day.
More than 1,000 organizations will be hosting events, but if you don’t have one near you, don’t let that stop you from participating! There are plenty of things you can do, such as:
- Hold a brief exercise class during your lunch break. Have someone bring in a yoga DVD, or just jog up and down the steps together. Who knows, maybe you’ll develop a healthy habit out of it!
- Schedule a physical, pap smear, mammogram—the whole bit. If you’re due, get it down in ink.
- Gather a group of friends to work out. Head to the local fitness center, meet at someone’s house, walk the school track, or go swimming.
- Whip up something yummy and healthy for your lunch. Maybe a yogurt smoothie with fresh fruit, a salad made of all of your favorite veggies, or a veggie wrap with hummus? Mmm…
- Become a Cervical Cancer & HPV Awareness Ambassador. Spread the word about these diseases and protect your own health, too.
- Talk to your daughter, mother, or other female loved ones about their health. Is your mom doctor-phobic? Your daughter depressed? Help them be healthy by providing a loving shoulder to lean on as well as a kick in the butt if needed!
- Visit your doctor or family planning clinic if you are pregnant or planning on having children. Find out how to get your body as healthy as possible during this time of your life. Get some prenatal vitamins if you need them.
- Get some vitamins period! This is especially important if you don’t currently eat the recommended daily allowances of fruits and vegetables.
- De-stress. Take a tub soak, read a book, have sex, or just sit still and breathe for a few minutes. Meditate. Live in the moment. Take care of your mental health, too.
- Become a health nut. If you already take pretty good care of yourself, how about upping up your routine? Add in some strength training, or toss some flax seed into your salad for an omega-3 boost.
Will you be participating? Feel free to list your event below and invite other women.
