Former Miss America contestant Carrie Prejean made headlines when she was, some say, one question away from winning the Miss America title—that one question asked what her views were on gay marriage. Her answer was simply that marriage is between one man and one woman but that she defended the rights of others to believe as they chose. Suddenly, she became a champion of family values and pin-up girl...hmm, I mean poster girl for the right.
Now, another hopeful after her former title of Miss California,Laura Ashley, has made headlines and ruffled a few feathers for a similar response to the same question in which she gave the following quote from the Bible: Leviticus 20:13 “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.” She points out that the Bible is pretty clear on this matter, and she is of course right there; however, are women like this really the champions of family values as many would have us to believe, or are they nothing more than hypocrites in harlot's clothing that are doing more harm to women and family values than anyone else?
These ladies, and I use that term to be much more generous than I think they deserve, are fond of quoting the Bible and on the topic of homosexuality and they are indeed right as to what it says, but what about this verse: 1Timother 2:9-10 “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works” or Leviticus 19:2 that instructs us to “be holy for I the Lord your God am holy”. Apparently the lessons on modesty and being a lady of God were skipped in their Sunday school classes, or what, does the Bible only apply to everyone else and not them? How hypocritical of them to point out and criticize the sins of others while prancing around half naked before the world and dressing like a $2 hooker the rest of the time.
So how exactly does playing the role of the harlot, showing your body (which by Biblical standards was created for your spouse, not the world) causing men to lust and commit adultery (again by the same Biblical standards they are quoting from), and generally depicting women as nothing more than talking and walking blow up dolls supposed to speak for family values? Or for women for that matter? The entire concept of beauty contests in this country have further reduced women to nothing but objects and with every single crown they are setting back women's rights even further, which is most likely the motivation, in part, behind such demeaning displays. And certainly, if they are going to live a life and behave themselves in a fashion that is contrary to the scriptures, then they need to also keep their mouths shut and refrain from condemning others for not doing the same, after all, the scriptures also tells us “Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.” Matt 7:5.
