Yet another misogynistic ad has hit the news stands- this time by American Apparel. And while nothing quite compares to Bacardi's ludicrous ad campaign to encourage women to get ugly friends, I am not particularly a fan of this one either. In this photo, which was on the back of my friend's People magazine (I swear it wasn't mine), a girl who looks to be about 15-years-old is posed in a couple of sexually provocative positions.
Some may argue that the pictures are acceptable and that the positions are not in fact inappropriate at all, but I happen to view crotch shots of 15-year-old girls with some disdain. Basically, the lower picture is pretty much an open invitation to imagine what is behind the hands...
This is not the first time American Apparel has gone a little risqué. Last year, American Apparel showed actual nipples in an effort to show how sexy their brand was. Reportedly, the company was going for an image of "youth and sex", which I think it is safe to say, was definitely achieved here.
In fact, American Apparel was actually embroiled in what sounds like the strangest lawsuit ever, American Apparel CEO Charney was alleged to have held meetings in the nude, but it looks now like it was probably just his underwear.
